A Kashmiri man was assaulted in Hegde Nagar area of Bangalore on Monday. The victim has been identified as Taseer, a resident of Srinagar.
Taseer’s wife Tabassum told Greater Kashmir on phone from Bangalore that about a dozen people assaulted her husband after which he has been admitted to a hospital.
“We have some property in Bangalore on which we are building a flat, we had asked the local contractor to rectify the work where it had gone wrong, which he did not. Instead of paying us for our losses, he brought a mob with him and assaulted my husband while calling him a terrorist,” Tabassum said.
“The contractor told my husband that he would kill him and no one will do anything about it. He had bought a dozen people with him. Just because my husband is a Kashmiri, does that mean people can assault him, give him death threats and get away with it?” she asked.
Tabasum said that her husband was hit with a large wooden plank by the accused and has been admitted to Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital, RT Nagar.
“He has received injuries on his back and left arm,” she said.
While talking to Greater Kashmir, circle inspector Kathnur police station, Subrawayam Swami, said, “There is no angle of any targeted attack on Kashmiri, this was a local dispute between owner and the contractor and we have lodged an FIR for assault. We are investigating the matter.”
The family, later in the evening, said that police have taken action after the report of the assault surfaced in media.
“Police recorded the statement of Taseer and five persons have been arrested. DCP and additional commissioner of police assured that the issue will be dealt with in accordance with law,” said Nazish, family friend of the victim.
