Authorities on Saturday reiterated that no civilian vehicle would be allowed to ply on the highway on Sunday as it has been designated as “convoy day.”

“Sundays and Wednesdays are totally meant for security forces’ convoys and no civilian vehicle will be allowed to ply on the highway,” IGP Traffic Alok Kumar told Greater Kashmir.

He said sector magistrates accompanied by DSPs have been deployed on the highway to oversee the convoy movement. “In case of any exigency, magistrates will allow only that vehicle, that too after proper verification and checking. Otherwise no civilian vehicle will be allowed,” he said.

District Magistrate Udhampur Saturday ordered enforcement of section 144 Cr.PC for not allowing any vehicle expect of security forces on two dedicated days every week from 4 am to 5 pm.

The DM informed that in case there is requirement for civilian traffic movement for any urgency especially medical emergency or for other purpose, concerned person may apply to ADC or SDM.

The DM said that these officers shall in consultation with the police authorities issue passes and permits on case to case basis considering the urgency of the situation given by the applicant.
