Srinagar, Feb 10: In order to pay tribute and hail the role of Kashmir martyr Muhammad Maqbool Bhat on his 35th anniversary, the Democratic Liberation Party (DLP) Sunday organized a seminar in Kashmir capital Srinagar that was attended by people from different shades of society. Those participated in the seminar were çivil society members, academicians, pro freedom leaders and lawyers including GN Shaheen and Babar Qadri.
While paying rich tributes to Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, DPL chairman Hashim Qureshi said, “People like Bhat are born in centuries.”
He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are feeling proud as Bhat has born in the Valley. “Bhat has lit the candle of freedom struggle and thousands of Kashmiri youth who followed the path of Bhat have also sacrificed their lives for the sacred cause,” he added.
Qureshi said, “Bhat who raised his voice against the slavery was hanged till death under a well planned conspiracy by India and the Kashmiri rulers.”
He later demanded the mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat.
He said Bhat Sahib’s every part of life was dedicated to the service of the people irrespective of their religion, region or clan. In the Pakistani court he had said that: “He had neither hatched any conspiracy nor ever participated in the group of conspirators. He asserted that his character was transparent. He said that of course he was revolting against corruption, money-mindedness, exploitation, oppression.
He described Maqbool Bhat “an ideologue, statesman, warrior, political leader and diplomat who led this nation on all fronts and sacrificed his life for the sacred cause.”
“The struggle and sacrifice of Shaheed Baba I Qaum Muhammad Maqbool Butt is a corner stone of Kashmiri resistance movement against forced control and symbol of freedom and liberty. He will always remain as a symbol of freedom and liberty not only for Kashmiri nation but for all the nations that are striving for their freedom and liberty. Martyr Muhammad Maqbool Bhat was not an ordinary person. He was an intellectual who visualized of liberating his nation from foreign control, pursued his dream, strived hard for it and sacrificed his life for this righteous cause.
“Kashmiri people will never forget the sacrifices of both the sons of soil who had devoted their lives for the Kashmir cause. Instead of surrendering before Indian government, they preferred to embrace gallows,” the speakers said, adding that “It is our responsibility to protect these sacrifices.”
